The water softener fitted to any machine is an extremely important piece of catering equipment that will ensure good results, can lower chemical usage and most important reduce expensive breakdowns and possible invalidation of manufacturers warranties.
(Most will not cover any faults caused by lime scale build up)
Useful Tips
- For average use regeneration once a week will be sufficient - more intensive use will require two regenerations per week.
- Water hardness can change - if there are any signs of lime scale build-up increase the frequency.
- The softener is connected between the water supply and the equipment by two hoses and taps. The top tap should be connected to the water supply, the bottom to the machine.
- When in the working position the taps should both be at 9 o’clock.
To Regenerate (Manual Water Softeners)
1. Ensure that the two lengths of clear plastic hoses included are fitted to the drain side of the taps.
2. Turn both taps to 3 o’clock. Ensure that the clear hoses are over a bucket as a very small amount of water under mains pressure may drain from the softener.
3. Unscrew the larger top knob and remove lid assembly.
4. Pour 1 – 2 kg of granular salt into the top of the softener.
5. Replace the lid ensuring that the large O ring is clean and tighten top knob.
6. Turn top tap to 9 o’clock Make sure that the drain hose from the bottom tap is still into the bucket. A low flow of water will continue from this hose during regeneration.
7. Allow the water to flow for about 30 minutes or until the water going into the bucket no longer tastes salty.
8. Turn bottom tap to 9 o’clock.
