A Guide to Water Filters

Sometimes a confusing subject but worthy of study to get it right.

With equipment being a large capital out lay it’s important to protect it, incorrectly filtered water can severely damage the equipment often leaving the owner facing big repair bills because the damage falls outside the manufacturer warranty.

We all know why a salt based softener is used, whether that is an automatic water softener unit or a manual cylinder type.

Where a common mistake is made is that these water softeners should not be used on any drinks machine, coffee machine or Ice machine - in fact anything where the product is consumed.
A salt based water softener does it job well by turning water from hard to soft and removing all the calcium and magnesium, however it leaves the softened water with an increased salt level. This softened water would be a poor choice when served in drinks or ice for consumption. Consider infants, elderly and those of us who need a low sodium diet.

So below are alternatives to the salt based water softener and is fast becoming the industry standard.
Remember in this blame worthy culture you need to show that you have examined all risks and taken all possible steps to either reduce them or if possible remove them.

Omnipure Water Filter

This water filter is polyphosphate and carbon based. It is a sealed unit and very easy to exchange once installed.
Once spent, the filter cartridge is un-screwed from its head and replaced.
We would recommend the fitting of an in line water meter so you can accurately predict when the filter needs changing.

This type of water filter is ideal in areas of soft water as it will remove taste and odour from mains water. It also has a scale inhibitor that makes it perfect for Ice Machines and cold drinks dispensing.

Aquapure Scalegard

This water filter is resin and carbon based. Again it is a sealed unit that once installed is very easy to exchange. Once spent the filter cartridge in un-screwed from its head and replaced.
We would recommend the fitting of an in line water meter so you can accurately predict when the filter needs changing.

This type of filter does all that an Omnipure would achieve and in addition removes all lime scale.
These filters should be used in any hard water area, and for any equipment that heats water and is either used for consumption or where protection of the equipment is vital.

This type of filter is ideal in areas of hard water and will remove taste, odour and lime scale from mains water. It is a perfect filter for Combination Ovens, Coffee Machines and hot drinks machine.

Calcium Treatment Units

These water filters do all that a Scalegard filter would achieve but are larger in volume therefore ideal equipment such as large volume Coffee Machines and Combination Ovens.
These “CTU” filters vary in size and choice would depend on the type of equipment you have and consumption of water.
