Product Description
The Rational iCombi UltraVent Plus is a purpose-built recirculation canopy designed to sit directly on top of the iCombi oven in the 6-1 and 10-1 sizes. It connects to the oven's internal sensors, so the extraction system responds automatically — activating when the oven is in use and drawing in the burst of steam that escapes each time the door is opened. The result is that steam, vapour, and cooking odours are captured at source rather than dispersing into the kitchen.
What distinguishes the Plus version from the standard UltraVent is its additional filtration layers, which are engineered to handle the full range of the iCombi's cooking modes. Where the base model manages steam and condensation effectively, the Plus includes specialised filters capable of dealing with smoke and grease-laden vapour produced during grilling and roasting programmes. This makes it the more capable option for kitchens that run a varied menu across baking, steaming, and high-temperature roasting.
In operational terms, the principal advantage is that it removes the need for a connection to an external extraction system. There is no requirement for ducting, canopy hoods above the oven, or modifications to the building fabric. This has a few meaningful practical consequences:
- The oven can be positioned where it is operationally convenient, not where ducting allows
- Installation is straightforward and can be carried out retrospectively on an existing machine
- It is well suited to front-of-house settings, theatre kitchens, and sites where ductwork installation is not feasible
- Running filtration costs are limited to periodic carbon filter replacement
- The unit integrates directly with the oven's controls without separate wiring complexity
It is worth being clear about what recirculation technology does not do. It is not equivalent to a fully ducted extraction canopy in terms of heat removal, and in enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces the ambient temperature around the oven will still rise during heavy service. For kitchens running the oven intensively across long service periods, it is worth discussing ventilation provision for the room as a whole, separate from the canopy itself.
The UltraVent Plus is compatible with the Rational iCombi in 6-1 and 10-1 configurations. It is the right choice for operators who use the oven across its full range of functions and need a clean, practical solution without structural works. If your site runs a 20-1 or larger unit, or if you are working in a high-volume operation with very intensive heat output, a different extraction approach is likely more appropriate.
If you are unsure whether a recirculation canopy will suit your kitchen environment or ventilation setup, we are happy to talk it through before you commit to a purchase.
Key Features

Frequently Asked Questions
- Yes — it operates as a fully self-contained recirculation unit and does not require connection to an external extract system or ducting to outside. It filters steam, vapour, and smoke internally using carbon and multi-layer filters. That said, it does not remove heat from the room, so adequate general ventilation in the kitchen space is still worth considering, particularly in smaller or enclosed environments.
- Filter replacement intervals depend on usage intensity and the range of cooking modes being used — sites running frequent grilling and roasting will exhaust filters more quickly than those using predominantly steam or bake programmes. Replacement is a straightforward operator task and does not require an engineer. Keeping to a regular replacement schedule is important for maintaining extraction performance and air quality.
- The standard UltraVent is designed primarily for steam and condensate management, while the Plus adds the filtration capacity needed for smoke and grease vapour from grilling and roasting. If your oven is used predominantly for steaming and baking with only occasional roasting, it is worth discussing which version is the more practical fit for your usage pattern — there is no single right answer without understanding the menu and service volume.
