Product Description
The Revol Basalt plate is a rectangular presentation plate made from 100% culinary-grade porcelain paste, finished to closely replicate the appearance of natural slate. The dark tone, textured surface, and angular form are all there — but the underlying material is fully vitrified porcelain, which behaves very differently to genuine stone in a working kitchen environment.
Natural slate has well-documented service limitations: it chips under repeated handling, scratches with metal cutlery, and — critically — absorbs fats and bacteria over time unless regularly sealed. The Basalt plate carries none of those concerns. The porcelain construction is non-porous throughout, which means it remains food-safe and hygienic regardless of service volume, and it handles mechanical dishwashing without any deterioration of the surface finish.
In front-of-house use, the rectangular format gives chefs a more structured canvas than a conventional round plate. It suits sharing boards, structured starter portions, and modern plating styles where presentation is part of the offer. The dark basalt finish provides strong visual contrast against pale sauces, fresh garnishes, and lighter proteins — a practical advantage when the plate is doing work as part of the dish, not just holding it.
- Non-porous surface that will not absorb fats, odours, or bacteria
- Holds up to repeated mechanical dishwashing without finish degradation
- Resistant to chipping and scratching under normal service conditions
- No sealing or specialist treatment required
- Consistent aesthetic across the Revol Basalt range for cohesive table builds
Sold in packs of six, these plates are practical for trialling the Basalt aesthetic or topping up an existing set. Operators building a full cover count from scratch should think through quantities against expected service volume and dishwash cycle times before ordering — running short mid-service is easily avoided with a little planning at the outset.
If you are putting together a new tableware specification or want to talk through quantities for an opening, the team is happy to work through it with you.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Revol's culinary-grade porcelain is fully vitrified, which means the surface remains intact and non-porous through repeated commercial dishwash cycles. The slate-effect finish does not fade, peel, or degrade with regular mechanical washing, which is one of the practical advantages over genuine stone or glazed finishes that can wear over time.
- Yes. The Basalt surface is resistant to scratching under normal service conditions, including contact with metal cutlery and serving implements. As with any porcelain plate, severe impact or mishandling will cause damage, but day-to-day service use is well within the material's tolerance.
- That depends on your cover count, seating turnover, and dishwash cycle time. A useful starting point is to have at least two and a half times your seated cover count in plates to allow for a full service floor, a dishwash cycle in progress, and a buffer for breakages. If you are specifying for a new opening or larger operation, it is worth talking through the numbers before you order.
