Product Description
The Polar U-Series walk-in cold room is a fully integral chilling unit supplied, delivered, and professionally installed as a complete package. Built from galvanised steel, aluminium, and plastic panel construction, it is designed to function as a standalone cold store within an existing building — or, with the appropriate weatherproof roof panel, in a covered outdoor location. The refrigeration system uses R449A refrigerant and is built into the unit, so there is no requirement for a remote condensing unit or separate plantroom space.
In a working kitchen environment, the key demand placed on a walk-in cold room is consistent temperature retention during frequent access. The U-Series is rated to maintain its operating temperature in ambient conditions up to 43°C, which makes it practical for kitchen sites where the surrounding environment runs warm — a common issue in basement prep areas, bakery environments, and busy production kitchens operating through extended service periods. The forced-air cooling system circulates cold air throughout the store rather than relying on passive cooling, which supports more even temperature distribution across the full storage volume.
From an operational standpoint, several design decisions translate into day-to-day advantages:
- The fully rebated door closes flush with the wall panels, improving both temperature retention and physical security
- The lockable door reduces the risk of unauthorised access to stored goods
- The integral design means no exposed refrigeration pipework to maintain or protect
- Internal surfaces are straightforward to clean down during regular hygiene routines
- Suitable for indoor or outdoor installation, giving flexibility on siting
Installation is included in the price and covers site survey, delivery to mainland UK, and full professional set-up. This is a special-to-order product and is non-returnable once manufactured. It is worth confirming access routes before ordering — at 375kg the assembled unit requires adequate doorway clearance and appropriate floor loading capacity. Racking and shelving are sold separately, so storage configuration should be considered alongside the room itself. If the unit is to be sited outdoors, a weatherproof roof panel is available separately and should be specified at the point of order.
This size of cold room — offering just over 4,400 litres of gross capacity — is well suited to small independent restaurants, cafés with significant fresh produce throughput, pub kitchens, and small catering operations that need dedicated cold storage beyond what undercounter or upright refrigeration can provide. It is less likely to be adequate for high-volume production kitchens, large banqueting operations, or sites with multiple daily deliveries requiring bulk storage; for those applications a larger footprint model would be worth considering.
If you are unsure whether this size is right for your site, or have questions about the installation requirements for your specific location, we are happy to talk it through before you commit to an order.

Frequently Asked Questions
- A rough starting point is to estimate your peak stock volume in crates or GN containers and work back from there, but service pattern matters as much as raw capacity — a kitchen that takes one large delivery per week will use the space differently to one receiving daily fresh deliveries. If you are unsure, it is worth speaking to us before ordering, as this is a special-to-order product and cannot be returned once manufactured.
- The unit requires a level, solid floor capable of supporting 375kg plus the weight of stored goods, and sufficient access for the panels to be brought in during installation — the site survey included with purchase is designed to confirm this in advance. A standard electrical supply is needed for the integral refrigeration system, and if siting outdoors, a weatherproof roof panel should be specified at the point of order. Racking and shelving are not included and should be ordered separately to suit your storage requirements.
- The U-Series is designed to operate in both indoor and outdoor locations, but if sited outside it should be positioned under a covered area or fitted with the optional weatherproof roof panel, which is sold separately. The refrigeration system is rated to cope with ambient temperatures up to 43°C, so exposure to direct sunlight or reflected heat should be factored into the siting decision. We would recommend discussing your specific outdoor location during the pre-installation site survey.
