Product Description
The Polar U-Series walk-in cold room is a fully integral chilled storage unit, meaning the refrigeration system is built directly into the structure itself. There is no remote condenser, no separate plant room, and no additional ducting to arrange. The unit arrives as a flat-pack panel system, assembled and commissioned on site as part of the included installation service, which covers site survey, delivery, professional fitting, and commissioning across mainland UK.
In day-to-day service, the unit is designed to hold stable chilled temperatures consistently, even in warmer back-of-house environments where ambient conditions can be demanding. Forced-air cooling helps distribute temperature evenly throughout the storage space rather than relying on static cold zones — which matters in busy kitchens where the door is opened regularly and the unit needs to recover without compromising stored product.
The integral design carries a number of clear practical advantages for operators:
- No external condenser or plant room required, simplifying installation considerably
- Dovetail panel joining and a rebated lockable door reduce air infiltration and support energy retention
- Moisture management in the interior helps protect stored produce and reduce humidity build-up
- Suitable for ambient conditions up to 43°C, making it viable in kitchens where heat accumulation is a concern
- R449A refrigerant offers a lower global-warming-potential aligned with current industry practice
Before confirming placement, floor load capacity should be verified — the installed weight is substantial, and this is particularly relevant on upper floors or mezzanine-level kitchens. Because the unit is assembled on site from panels, access routes and doorway widths need to be considered at the planning stage. Internal racking and shelving are sold separately, and if outdoor positioning is intended, a weatherproof roof panel will also be required. A suitable electrical supply must be available at the installation point.
This configuration is well suited to small restaurants, cafés, deli counters, and catering operations with a moderate volume of chilled stock. It provides meaningful storage capacity without the footprint commitment of a larger installation. Operations with significantly higher throughput, multiple service covers, or large-scale fresh produce requirements may find a higher-capacity configuration more appropriate for their needs.
Walk-in cold rooms involve a number of site-specific decisions — floor preparation, positioning relative to heat sources, electrical supply, and workflow considerations all influence how well the unit performs over time. If it would help to talk through whether this configuration is the right fit for your site, the team is happy to have that conversation before you go ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions
- The 1.5 x 2.1m footprint is well suited to smaller operations — small restaurants, cafés, deli counters, and catering kitchens with moderate chilled storage requirements. If your service volume is higher or you're storing significant volumes of fresh produce across multiple covers, it's worth considering whether a larger configuration would serve you better before committing.
- Installation is included in the price and covers site survey, delivery, assembly on site, and commissioning across mainland UK. Because the unit arrives as a flat-pack panel system, access routes and internal doorway widths need to be checked at the planning stage. A suitable electrical supply must be available at the intended location, and floor load capacity should be verified in advance — particularly on upper floors or mezzanine-level kitchens.
- No — the integral design means the refrigeration system is built into the unit itself, so there is no requirement for a separate condenser, plant room, or remote ducting. Internal shelving and racking are sold separately and are not included as standard. If you intend to site the unit outdoors, a weatherproof roof panel will also be needed.
