Moffat Focus Polar Unit Cold ServeryProduct Description
The Moffat FTPG3 Focus Polar Unit is a self-contained chilled servery designed to display cold accompaniments — butter, mayonnaise, coleslaw, relishes, and similar condiments — at the point of service. Unlike a powered refrigerated display, it requires no electrical connection whatsoever. Instead, a eutectic ice pack is frozen overnight and fitted into the base of the unit before service begins, providing the cold source for the duration of a typical service period.
The unit features a shallow stainless steel well inset into the top, fitted with GN-compatible Polar-plates that draw cold from the eutectic pack below. A low transparent retaining screen helps hold cold air within the well during service. An illuminated gantry and fitted sneeze guard complete the display, giving a clean, presentable appearance on a front-of-house counter without requiring any fixed installation.
In a busy service environment, it is worth being clear about where this unit fits and where it does not. It performs well for operations that need a neat, self-contained chilled condiment display for a defined service window — carvery stations, buffet counters, event hospitality, and mobile catering setups are all common applications. It is not a substitute for a mains-powered refrigerated display where extended holding periods or higher product volumes are required; the eutectic pack has a finite cold reserve, and ambient temperature will affect how long it holds safe temperatures through service.
- No mains connection required — genuinely portable for events and mobile use
- Illuminated display with sneeze guard for front-of-house presentation
- Simple daily preparation — freeze the pack overnight and fit before service
- GN-compatible Polar-plates for straightforward container sizing
- Compact footprint suits existing servery and carvery counter setups
This unit is best suited to smaller operations, event caterers, and venues with a seasonal or occasional need for a chilled condiment display rather than a permanent refrigerated solution. If you are weighing this up against a powered alternative, or are unsure whether the eutectic format will suit your service length and ambient conditions, the team is happy to talk it through.

Moffat Focus Polar Unit Cold ServeryFrequently Asked Questions
- The holding duration depends on ambient temperature and how frequently the well is accessed during service. Under typical indoor conditions, a properly frozen eutectic pack will generally maintain safe temperatures through a standard service period, but operations in warm environments or running extended services should consider this carefully. If your service runs longer than average or ambient temperatures are high, a mains-powered chilled display may be the more reliable choice.
- It works well as a semi-permanent fixture on a carvery or buffet counter, provided the daily freeze-and-fit preparation fits your operation's routine. For venues running back-to-back services or requiring continuous chilled display throughout the day without preparation breaks, a mains-powered refrigerated servery would be worth considering instead.
- It is designed for small selections of chilled condiments and accompaniments — butter portions, mayonnaise, coleslaw, sauces, relishes, and similar cold toppings. It is not intended for storing raw proteins or products requiring consistently precise refrigeration temperatures, and should not be used as a substitute for a commercial refrigerator.
