Product Description
The Kubus drop-in cold island well is a refrigerated display unit designed to sit flush within a prepared countertop or servery surface. At 1175mm wide, it accommodates three full 1/1 GN pans and is configured for double-sided customer access, making it particularly well suited to freestanding island servery layouts where customers approach from either side. It operates continuously at food-safe chill temperatures, running 24 hours a day as standard.
In sustained service environments, the unit performs reliably through long buffet periods and high-footfall service windows. The R290 hydrocarbon refrigerant system carries a significantly lower global warming potential than older refrigerant types and tends to reduce running costs over the product's working life. The integral condensate water evaporator handles moisture internally, removing the need for a floor drain connection — a practical advantage in locations where drainage routing would otherwise be complicated or costly.
The operational details that matter most in day-to-day use include:
- Modular removable deck plates that simplify cleaning at the end of service
- Diffused overhead lighting within the gantry profile for product visibility without harsh glare
- Eye-level digital temperature display with a lockable control panel on the operator side
- Toughened glass sneeze screens providing hygiene separation while keeping customer access straightforward
- Air inlet grills, a lifting kit, and a 2m lead and plug-top supplied as standard
Installation requires a correctly dimensioned countertop opening. The underslung condensing unit relies on adequate airflow through the supplied inlet grills, so ventilation clearances must not be obstructed — this is one of the more common installation oversights with drop-in refrigeration. At 116kg the unit requires two-person handling, and the countertop structure will need to be rated to support that load. Electrical connection is via a standard plug-top, which makes commissioning straightforward once the unit is positioned and ventilated correctly. GN containers are sold separately.
This unit is well suited to hotel buffet lines, staff restaurants, grab-and-go delis, and catering venues running a single self-service counter with moderate chilled food volumes. For sites needing greater linear display length or higher product throughput, wider configurations are worth considering. Where counter space is more limited or service volumes are modest, a smaller drop-in may be a better practical fit.
If you are specifying this unit for a new servery build or are working out whether it will integrate with an existing counter structure, our team is happy to work through the installation details with you beforehand.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Yes — the unit is rated for continuous 24-hour operation, which makes it well suited to hotel buffets, staff restaurants, and catering operations where chilled product needs to remain accessible and consistently cold throughout the day. Recovery performance under sustained load is generally reliable with R290 systems of this type, provided ventilation clearances are maintained.
- No. The integral condensate water evaporator handles moisture internally, so no drainage connection is required. This makes installation considerably more straightforward in servery locations where routing a drain would be impractical or expensive.
- You will need a correctly dimensioned countertop opening to accept the drop-in unit, a countertop structure rated to carry 116kg, and a clear standard 13A socket within reach of the 2m lead. The supplied air inlet grills must be fitted and unobstructed — the underslung condensing unit depends on adequate airflow to operate reliably, and restricted ventilation is the most common cause of performance issues with drop-in refrigeration of this type.
