The Dudson Makers Urban Nova plate is a 152mm side or starter plate finished in Steel Grey, produced in vitrified fine china. It forms part of the Urban collection, which takes its aesthetic from worn industrial surfaces — deliberately textured and decorated beneath a semi-matte glaze that gives the range its distinctive appearance without sacrificing the robustness expected of professional tableware.

Vitrified fine china is a practical choice for commercial service. It resists chipping better than standard earthenware and holds up reliably through repeated high-temperature dishwasher cycles. The semi-matte glaze finish means the surface is less prone to showing fine scratches over time compared with high-gloss alternatives, which matters when plates are in circulation across busy covers night after night.

  • Textured surface decorated under a semi-matte glaze for durability in commercial use
  • Vitrified fine china construction resists chipping and withstands intensive dishwasher cycling
  • Steel Grey finish coordinates with dark and neutral contemporary table schemes
  • Suitable for starter, side, and sharing plate applications at 152mm
  • Supplied in a pack of 12, practical for building cover quantities progressively

At 152mm this plate sits comfortably as a side plate, bread plate, or small starter plate. It is worth considering how it sits alongside other pieces in your current cover — Urban is available in complementary formats, so building a consistent look across the table is straightforward if that matters to your front-of-house presentation.

If you are specifying tableware for a new opening or refreshing an existing range and want to talk through quantities, mix of sizes, or how Urban fits with your current china, the team is happy to help.

Frequently asked questions

How does vitrified fine china hold up in a high-volume commercial dishwasher environment?

Vitrified fine china is fired at higher temperatures than standard ceramics, which makes it denser and less porous. This translates to better resistance to thermal shock and chipping during the rigours of commercial rack dishwasher use, making it a practical choice for busy operations where plates cycle through service and washing multiple times per day.

Is the 152mm size suitable as a side plate alongside a standard dinner plate?

Yes — 152mm works well as a side or bread plate paired with a larger main plate in the 270–285mm range, which is the most common configuration in casual dining and brasserie covers. It also functions as a small starter or snack plate in its own right, depending on your menu format.

Does the semi-matte glaze finish require any special care or handling compared with standard gloss china?

No special treatment is required. Semi-matte glazed ware performs well in standard commercial dishwashers using normal detergents. The finish is less prone to showing swirl marks than high-gloss surfaces, though as with all commercial china, avoiding metal-on-ceramic contact during stacking and storage will extend the life of the decoration.
