  • Edge chip cover for 5 years. The manufacturer’s terms apply 5

The Churchill Studio Prints Homespun Charcoal Black square plate is a porcelain side and starter plate finished with a textile-inspired underglaze print and a hand-applied edge band. It sits within the broader Studio Prints Homespun range, which is also available in a Stone Grey colourway, giving operators some flexibility when building or extending a table scheme.

In a commercial setting, the underglaze construction is worth noting. Because the pattern is applied beneath the glaze rather than on top of it, it holds up considerably better through the repeated dishwasher cycling that tableware in busy operations is subjected to. Surface-printed finishes can show wear and fading relatively quickly under those conditions; this construction is more resistant to that kind of degradation over time. Churchill support the range with a five-year edge chip warranty, which reflects reasonable confidence in day-to-day commercial durability.

From a practical service standpoint, the square format lends itself to structured, contemporary plating. The Charcoal Black colourway provides a strong contrast backdrop, which works particularly well for lighter-coloured starters, salads, and sharing dishes where presentation at the pass matters.

  • Underglaze print resists fading through repeated commercial dishwasher cycles
  • Hand-applied edge band adds a craft-influenced finish without being overtly decorative
  • Square format supports structured, contemporary portion presentation
  • Charcoal Black colourway creates strong contrast with lighter-coloured dishes
  • Stone Grey colourway available for mixed or complementary table schemes

This plate is well suited to restaurants, hotels, and hospitality venues looking for tableware that carries some visual character without being overly patterned. The 215mm size is most practical for starters, sides, and sharing portions rather than main courses. If you are planning a full cover change or want to confirm what matching pieces are available across the Homespun range before committing, our team can help you work through the options.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 215mm size suitable as a main course plate?

At 215mm this plate is best used for starters, sides, and sharing portions rather than main courses, where a larger plate is generally more practical for portioning and presentation. If you need a matching main plate, it is worth checking what sizes are available across the Studio Prints Homespun range before committing to a scheme.

How does the underglaze print hold up in a commercial dishwasher environment?

Because the pattern is applied beneath the glaze rather than on top, it is better protected from the mechanical action and detergents used in commercial dishwashers. Surface-printed finishes tend to show wear and colour loss more quickly in high-cycle environments; underglaze construction is significantly more resistant to that over time.

Can this plate be mixed with other colourways or patterns in the same range?

The Homespun pattern is available in both Charcoal Black and Stone Grey, and the two colourways can work alongside each other in a mixed table scheme. If you are building a layered setting or want to confirm which other pieces in the range — bowls, platters, and so on — are available to match, our team can help you plan that before you order.
