This Designline chilled drop-in is a refrigerated display unit designed to sit flush within an assisted service counter. It holds prepared foods — deli items, sandwiches, salads, and similar chilled produce — at safe serving temperatures while keeping them clearly visible and accessible to staff working the counter. The elliptical superstructure profile houses diffused illumination and a digital temperature readout, with a lockable control panel positioned on the operator side so settings remain under staff control during service.

The unit is built for continuous operation across a full service day. Temperature recovery after the display is accessed during peak periods is reliable, and the underslung condensing unit keeps the overall display profile clean, with ventilation handled by the supplied air grilles. R290 hydrocarbon refrigerant carries a low global warming potential and tends to keep running costs down compared with older refrigerant types. The integral condensate evaporator removes the need for a site drain, which meaningfully simplifies installation in most counter builds.

Day-to-day operation is well considered throughout the design:

  • Front toughened glass panel tilts forward on a locking hinge for straightforward end-of-service cleaning
  • Modular, removable deck plates allow thorough cleaning of the chilled well without specialist tools
  • Two toughened glass mid-shelves provide additional ambient display space within the superstructure
  • Optional chopping boards can be fitted over the rear shelf to support a localised sandwich preparation area
  • Ships with a 2m lead and plug top, air inlet grilles, and a lifting kit included

Installation requires a correctly sized countertop aperture and adequate clearance beneath the counter for the underslung condensing unit and its air grilles. At 170kg the unit will need assistance and appropriate handling equipment to position — the included lifting kit supports this. No drainage connection is required. It runs from a standard plug connection, though the counter structure must be able to carry the weight before installation begins.

This display is well suited to delis, cafés, hotel food service counters, staff restaurants, and similar assisted service environments handling moderate to high throughput of chilled prepared foods. The 1525mm width with four full GN positions gives a meaningful display footprint without the complexity of a full built-in refrigerated counter. For very high-volume operations requiring significantly more display capacity, a wider or multi-section arrangement may be worth considering.

If you are planning a counter build or refurbishment and want to talk through whether this unit fits your layout, refrigeration load, or service style, the team is happy to work through the specifics with you.

Frequently asked questions

Is this unit suitable for a high-volume lunchtime service operation?

The unit is designed for continuous operation and handles moderate to high throughput well, making it a practical choice for busy lunchtime service periods in cafés, delis, and staff restaurants. For operations with significantly larger display requirements or very high product turnover, a wider or multi-section configuration may provide more capacity and is worth discussing with the team before committing.

What does installation involve, and do I need a plumber or electrician on site?

The drop-in requires a correctly sized aperture in your countertop and adequate clearance beneath for the underslung condensing unit and its air grilles. The integral condensate evaporator means no drainage connection is needed, and the unit runs from a standard plug connection, so specialist electrical installation is not typically required. The counter structure itself must be able to support 170kg, so it is worth confirming this with your counter supplier or joiner before installation day.

Can this unit be used for sandwich preparation as well as display?

Optional chopping boards can be fitted over the rear shelf of the superstructure, which creates a localised preparation area alongside the chilled display well — a practical arrangement for counters that need to combine display and light assembly work in the same footprint. If sandwich preparation is a significant part of your operation, it is worth discussing the workflow and counter layout with us to make sure the configuration suits your service style.
