The Designline drop-in cold well is a refrigerated display unit designed to sit flush within a countertop, presenting chilled food at the point of service. The elliptical superstructure is constructed from polished stainless steel and aluminium with curved toughened glass on the customer-facing side, which doubles as a practical sneeze screen. Diffused gantry lighting illuminates the display, and a digital temperature readout sits at eye level on the operator side alongside a lockable control panel — a sensible detail where temperature consistency needs to be protected from accidental adjustment during busy service.

The unit runs on R290 hydrocarbon refrigerant, which carries a lower global warming potential than many conventional alternatives and tends to reduce running costs over time. The condensing unit is underslung, with ventilation managed through the air grilles supplied with the unit, so no remote refrigeration plant is required on site. The system is rated for continuous 24-hour operation, which suits display counters that remain live outside core service periods.

From a day-to-day operational standpoint, the unit offers several practical advantages:

  • Modular removable deck plates in the chilled well simplify cleaning between services
  • An integral condensate evaporator removes the need for a site drainage connection
  • Lockable temperature controls protect settings during service
  • R290 refrigerant supports lower environmental impact and reduced long-term running costs
  • Supplied with air inlet grilles, a lifting kit, and a 2m lead and plug top for a straightforward electrical connection

Installation requires a countertop opening sized to accept the unit, with adequate clearance beneath the counter for the condensing unit and ventilation grilles. At 131kg, positioning during installation warrants careful planning — the counter structure will need to be capable of supporting the loaded weight. The plug-and-play electrical supply keeps on-site requirements manageable, but it is worth confirming the opening dimensions and undercount clearance before the unit arrives on site. GN containers are sold separately.

This unit is well suited to cafeterias, staff restaurants, retail food counters, and hospitality buffet setups where chilled food needs to be held safely and presented cleanly through service. It is a practical choice for medium-volume service points. For higher-throughput operations or larger counter configurations, a wider or higher-capacity model may be worth considering to match demand more closely.

If you are planning a counter build or are unsure whether this unit fits your service layout and counter dimensions, we are happy to talk it through before you order.

Frequently asked questions

Does this unit require a separate remote refrigeration plant or a drainage connection?

No. The condensing unit is underslung within the unit itself, with ventilation handled by the supplied air inlet grilles, so no remote refrigeration plant is needed. The integral condensate evaporator also removes the requirement for a site drainage connection, which simplifies the installation considerably.

What clearance is needed beneath the counter for this unit to operate correctly?

The condensing unit and ventilation grilles are housed beneath the well, so adequate undercount clearance is essential for airflow and reliable refrigeration performance. You should confirm the available depth and height beneath your counter structure before ordering — if you are unsure of the exact clearance required, our team can advise based on your counter build.

Is this unit suitable for a site that runs a display counter throughout the day and into the evening?

Yes. The system is rated for continuous 24-hour operation, which suits counters that remain live outside core meal periods. It holds a temperature range of -1°C to 5°C, making it appropriate for chilled food display where consistent holding temperatures are required across a full service day.
