The EWC 12 Litre Manual Water Softener is a compact, inline softening unit designed to reduce the hardness of the incoming water supply to a commercial dishwasher or glasswasher. It works by passing water through a resin bed that exchanges hardness minerals — primarily calcium and magnesium — for sodium ions, delivering softened water to the machine without the need for an electrical connection.

In practice, hard water is one of the most common causes of premature dishwasher and glasswasher failure in commercial kitchens. Limescale builds up on heating elements, spray arms, and wash chamber surfaces, reducing cleaning performance and increasing energy consumption over time. Installing a manual softener upstream of the machine addresses this at source, helping to extend equipment life and maintain wash quality between services.

This unit is well suited to lower-volume operations where a compact, straightforward solution is needed:

It is important to note that this softener is not suitable for use with machines that produce a consumable output, such as ice makers, coffee equipment, or combi ovens with steam functions. For those applications, a separate filtered or treated supply should be considered.

This unit is best suited to small cafés, bars, or hospitality operations running a single glasswasher or compact dishwasher in a hard water area. It is a practical, low-maintenance first step in protecting that equipment. For sites with higher throughput machines or multiple units to protect, a higher-capacity softener would be more appropriate.
