The Mitre Essentials Basic Allover Mattress Protector is a waterproof, fitted cover designed to sit over a king size mattress and protect it from moisture, staining, and general wear in guest accommodation settings. Made from polyester microfibre, it fits neatly over the mattress with an elasticated skirt and is intended to remain unobtrusive beneath bed linen.

In a busy hotel or guest house environment, mattresses take considerable punishment. Moisture ingress — whether from spills, humidity, or general occupancy — accelerates deterioration and creates conditions where bacterial growth and allergen build-up can take hold. A protector of this type acts as a practical first line of defence, extending usable mattress life and supporting hygiene standards between deep cleans.

From an operational standpoint, this protector offers a number of practical advantages for housekeeping teams and accommodation managers:

  • Waterproof barrier helps prevent moisture reaching the mattress core
  • Smooth microfibre surface sits discreetly beneath sheets without affecting guest comfort
  • Lightweight construction at 730g keeps laundry handling straightforward
  • Tested to withstand 100 wash cycles, supporting regular commercial laundering
  • Allover fitted design reduces displacement during guest stays

At this price point, the Basic is well suited to properties looking to protect a large mattress stock without significant outlay per unit. It is worth bearing in mind that this is an entry-level protector — for properties with higher occupancy rates or where guests have specific allergy requirements, a heavier-duty or more feature-rich protector may be a more appropriate long-term investment.

If you are equipping a number of rooms and want to work through which specification makes most sense for your occupancy profile, we are happy to help you think it through before you order.

Frequently asked questions

Is this protector suitable for regular commercial laundering?

Yes — it has been test-washed 100 times, which indicates it is designed to withstand the demands of regular commercial laundry cycles. As with any textile product, following care label guidance will help maintain performance over time.

How does the Basic protector differ from higher-specification options?

The Basic is an entry-level protector suited to standard occupancy settings where cost-per-unit is a priority. Properties with very high turnover, guests with specific allergy sensitivities, or requirements for deeper cushioning may find a higher-specification protector better matches their needs.

Will guests notice the protector beneath the bed linen?

The microfibre surface is smooth and the protector is lightweight, so it generally sits unobtrusively beneath sheets. It is not a padded topper, so it adds no meaningful depth — guests are unlikely to be aware of it during a normal stay.
