Rustins Teak Oil is a penetrating wood treatment formulated from a blend of vegetable oils and resins. It is designed to nourish, seal and protect bare wood surfaces — including teak, cedar and similar hardwoods — whether used indoors or outside. The finish is a natural, low-gloss sheen rather than a surface lacquer, meaning the wood retains its natural character while gaining a degree of protection against moisture and drying out.

In catering and hospitality environments, teak oil is commonly used on wooden furniture, bar tops, outdoor seating, serving boards and decorative timber features. It is particularly well suited to maintaining the appearance of wooden elements that are exposed to regular handling or variable conditions, helping to keep the wood from drying, cracking or losing its finish over time.

Application is straightforward — the oil can be worked in with a brush or cloth and dries relatively quickly, which is practical when treating furniture or fittings that need to return to use without extended downtime. Multiple coats can be applied to build up protection on more heavily used or exposed surfaces.

  • Penetrating formula nourishes wood rather than sitting on the surface
  • Suitable for teak, cedar and most bare hardwood and softwood surfaces
  • Works for both indoor and outdoor applications
  • Quick-drying formulation reduces out-of-service time
  • Easy application by brush or cloth with no specialist equipment needed

If you are unsure whether teak oil is the right treatment for a specific timber type or application, or if you need advice on quantities for a larger project, the team is happy to help point you in the right direction.

Frequently asked questions

Is Rustins Teak Oil suitable for wooden chopping boards or food-contact surfaces?

Teak oil is not recommended for food-contact surfaces such as chopping boards. It is better suited to furniture, decorative timber, bar tops and outdoor seating. For food-contact wooden items, a food-safe mineral oil or specialist board treatment is more appropriate.

How many coats are typically needed for outdoor timber furniture?

For outdoor surfaces or timber that has dried out significantly, two to three coats are generally recommended, allowing each coat to penetrate and dry before applying the next. A single maintenance coat applied periodically thereafter is usually sufficient to keep the wood in good condition.

Can this be used on previously varnished or painted wood?

Teak oil is designed for bare, unfinished or previously oiled wood. It will not penetrate effectively through existing varnish, paint or other surface coatings. Any previous surface finish would need to be removed before application to achieve a good result.
