Slim Jim Other Equipment

The Rubbermaid Slim Jim Step-On Container is a 90-litre pedal-operated waste bin built for regular use in commercial kitchens, food service areas, and back-of-house environments. The front-mounted foot pedal opens the lid without requiring hand contact, and the lid closes silently — a practical detail in busy service areas where noise and hygiene are both concerns.

The container is moulded from a durable resin in a single-piece construction, which removes the crevices and join points where waste residue tends to accumulate. The red colour makes it straightforward to integrate into a colour-coded waste or recycling system, which is a common requirement in kitchens operating under food hygiene management frameworks.

From an operational standpoint, this container suits a range of positions in a working kitchen:

• Hands-free operation reduces cross-contamination risk during food prep
• Silent lid closure avoids disruption in customer-adjacent areas
• Red colour supports colour-coded waste segregation systems
• Slim-profile footprint fits into tighter service corridors and prep areas
• One-piece resin body is straightforward to clean and resists cracking under daily use

There are no electrical or water connections required. Placement is flexible, though the container performs best on a level floor surface. At 8kg empty, it is manageable to move for cleaning, though a full 90-litre bin will require care when repositioning. The slim-profile design is a deliberate feature for sites where floor space is limited, though it does mean the bin is taller relative to its footprint than a conventional round waste container of similar capacity.

This container is well suited to commercial kitchens, canteens, food preparation areas, and front-of-house hospitality environments where touchless waste disposal and colour-coded hygiene systems are in place. For very high-throughput sites generating significant waste volume, it is worth considering whether a larger-capacity model would reduce how frequently staff need to empty and reline the bin during service.
