The Utopia Core Slate plate is a 250mm stoneware plate finished in a slate-effect glaze, combining a glossy upper surface with a matt exterior. It is part of Utopia's Core range, which is designed to bring a considered, understated aesthetic to casual dining and contemporary restaurant settings without the fragility concerns associated with real slate.

Stoneware construction gives these plates reasonable durability for commercial table service. They are suitable for daily use in restaurants, bistros, cafés, and similar front-of-house environments where presentation matters and a modern, earthy look is part of the overall dining experience. The ceramic material handles the routine demands of a busy pass reasonably well, though as with all decorative stoneware, consistent handling and stacking practice will extend the lifespan of the glaze finish.

  • Slate-effect glaze adds visual interest without the handling risks of real slate
  • Glossy inner surface makes food presentation clean and easy to read
  • Matt exterior gives a tactile, considered feel in the hand
  • Stoneware construction balances weight and durability for front-of-house service
  • Pack of six suits initial trials or topping up existing sets

These plates are dishwasher safe, which keeps turnaround practical during busy service. The 250mm diameter positions them as a versatile size — appropriate for starters, desserts, or as a side plate alongside a larger main, depending on how your menu is structured.

If you are putting together a full table setting or want to discuss how these fit alongside other pieces in the Utopia Core range, the team is happy to help you work through the options.

Frequently asked questions

Are these plates suitable for a high-volume restaurant using a commercial dishwasher?

Yes, the Utopia Core Slate plates are dishwasher safe and built for commercial use. That said, as with any decorative stoneware glaze, consistent stacking practice and careful handling on the pass will help maintain the finish over time in a high-turnover environment.

What size of operation is a pack of six appropriate for?

A pack of six is most practical for smaller operations, for trialling the range before a larger order, or for topping up an existing set. Busier sites covering multiple covers per service will typically need to order several packs to maintain adequate cover throughout the shift.

How does the 250mm size work in practice — is it a main plate or a side plate?

At 250mm, this plate sits between a traditional side plate and a full main-course plate, making it flexible depending on your menu. It works well for starters, desserts, sharing plates, or as a generous side plate alongside a larger serving piece. How you use it will depend on your portion sizes and table layout.
