Product Description
The Designline cold island well is a drop-in refrigerated display unit designed to sit within a built countertop and allow customer self-service access from both sides. The elliptical gantry profile houses diffused lighting to present chilled food clearly, with an eye-level digital temperature readout and a lockable control panel on the operator side. Refrigeration runs on R290 hydrocarbon refrigerant, which carries a lower environmental impact than many conventional alternatives and tends to keep running costs down over time. The condensing unit is underslung beneath the counter, with ventilation handled through the supplied air grilles — no additional ducting is typically required, provided the space beneath the counter is correctly configured during the build.
Rated for continuous 24-hour operation, this unit is well suited to self-service environments where a chilled display needs to hold safe food temperatures consistently across long service periods without operator intervention. Cafeterias, staff restaurants, hotel buffet counters, and food-to-go serveries are typical settings. The integral condensate evaporator means no site drain connection is needed at the installation point, which removes a common complication from counter builds.
Several practical features support reliable day-to-day operation:
- Removable modular deck plates simplify cleaning the well base at end of service
- Curved toughened glass sneeze screens protect food from both sides while keeping the display clearly visible
- Lockable temperature controls reduce the risk of accidental or unauthorised adjustment during service
- Ships with a 2m lead and plug-top — no hardwired electrical connection required
- Integral condensate evaporator removes the need for a drain point at the installation location
Installation requires cutting an aperture in the countertop to accept the well, fitting the supplied air grilles to maintain airflow to the refrigeration components, and ensuring sufficient clearance beneath the counter for the underslung unit. At 111kg, the well is substantial, and the counter structure needs to be specified to carry that load. GN containers are sold separately. The plug-and-play electrical connection keeps commissioning straightforward, but the counter build itself warrants careful planning — particularly around grille placement and under-counter access.
This unit is well suited to medium-volume self-service operations requiring a built-in, customer-facing chilled display with consistent presentation and food safety performance over extended service periods. For larger countertop spans or higher-throughput sites where a greater capacity or wider footprint is needed, a larger model within the range may be more appropriate.
If you are in the middle of specifying a counter build or have questions about whether this unit fits your space and service pattern, the team is glad to work through the detail with you before you go ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions
- The unit is rated for continuous 24-hour operation and is well suited to cafeterias, staff restaurants, and buffet counters where the display needs to hold safe chill temperatures consistently throughout long service periods. For very high-throughput sites with greater capacity demands or wider counter spans, it is worth discussing whether a larger model would be a better fit before committing to a counter build.
- Installation requires cutting an aperture in the countertop to accept the well, fitting the supplied air grilles into the counter fascia to maintain airflow to the underslung condensing unit, and ensuring adequate clearance beneath the counter for the refrigeration components. At 111kg the unit is substantial, so the counter structure needs to be specified to carry that load. There is no need for a drain connection, and the plug-top electrical supply keeps commissioning relatively simple — but the counter build itself needs careful planning around grille positions and under-counter access.
- GN containers are not included and are sold separately. The well accommodates a three-by-full-size 1/1 GN layout, which is a standard configuration for this type of self-service island display.
