The Mitre Essentials PVC Quilted Mattress Protector is a practical, no-frills bed protector designed for hotel and hospitality use. It combines a polypropylene quilted surface with a PVC-backed underside to provide a water-resistant barrier between the mattress and the bedding above. Elasticated corner straps hold it firmly in place across the mattress, which helps it stay secure through regular guest turnover and housekeeping changes.

In a hospitality setting, mattress protectors take considerable wear — frequent laundering, heavy use, and the demands of quick room turnaround. This protector is rated to wash at 40°C with reduced mechanical action, which makes it compatible with standard commercial laundry processes, though care should be taken to follow the care label guidance: it should not be wrung, bleached, or ironed, and tumble drying should be on a very low heat setting to preserve the PVC backing over time.

It suits double-bedded guest rooms in hotels, B&Bs, and serviced accommodation where a reliable, cost-effective mattress protector is needed as part of a standard linen programme. Operators running higher-specification rooms or those requiring enhanced fluid protection may wish to consider a heavier-duty or fully waterproof alternative from the range.

If you are specifying bed protection across multiple room types or need guidance on the right protector for your linen programme, the team is happy to help you work through the options.

Frequently asked questions

Is this protector suitable for use in a commercial hotel laundry?

It is compatible with commercial laundry at 40°C, though it requires reduced mechanical action and should be tumble dried on a very low heat setting. High-temperature or aggressive wash cycles are likely to shorten the lifespan of the PVC backing, so care should be taken to programme accordingly.

How well does this protector hold up to frequent room changeovers?

The elasticated corner straps provide a reasonably secure fit that holds through regular changeovers. It is a mid-range protector designed for consistent use in standard guest rooms rather than heavy-duty or clinical environments where a fully waterproof protector would be more appropriate.

Is the PVC backing fully waterproof or only water resistant?

The protector offers water resistance rather than full waterproofing — it is suitable for incidental liquid contact but is not designed to withstand sustained fluid exposure. For rooms where full waterproof protection is required, a higher-specification alternative would be more suitable.
