Product Description
The EWC 8 Litre Manual Water Softener is a compact, inline water softening unit designed to reduce limescale build-up in small commercial dishwashers and glasswashers. It works by exchanging hard water minerals — primarily calcium and magnesium — for sodium ions as water passes through the resin bed, delivering softened water to the machine without any electrical connection.
In practice, hard water is one of the most common causes of premature wear in warewashing equipment. Scale accumulates on heating elements, spray arms, and internal pipework, reducing wash performance and shortening machine life. A softener installed on the incoming water supply helps protect the machine and maintain wash quality over time, particularly in medium-to-hard water areas where scale deposits form quickly.
Key operational advantages include:
- Protects heating elements and spray arms from limescale damage
- Helps maintain consistent wash and rinse performance
- No electrical supply needed — straightforward to fit inline
- Stainless steel construction suits a commercial environment
- Manually regenerated with salt, keeping ongoing costs low
Installation is straightforward — the unit connects inline on the cold water feed to the machine using the fitted flexible hose. No power supply is required. The resin bed will need periodic regeneration with salt once its softening capacity is exhausted, typically after processing a set volume of water. Regeneration frequency will depend on local water hardness, so operators in very hard water areas should expect to regenerate more often. This unit is not suitable for machines that produce a consumable product — including ice machines, coffee machines, or combi ovens — where food-safe water quality standards apply different requirements.
This softener is well suited to small single-phase glasswashers or undercounter dishwashers in lower-volume operations such as small cafés, bars, or staff canteens. For higher-throughput sites running larger machines, or where water hardness is severe, a higher-capacity softener is likely to be a better fit.
If you're unsure whether this unit is the right choice for your machine or your local water conditions, we're happy to talk it through before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Regeneration frequency depends on your local water hardness and the volume of water used each day. In moderate hard water areas, most operators find the resin lasts a reasonable number of service cycles before regeneration is needed. In very hard water areas, you should expect to regenerate more frequently — your water supplier can provide a hardness figure in mg/l or French degrees if you're unsure what applies locally.
- No — this unit is not suitable for machines that produce a consumable product, including coffee machines, ice makers, or combi ovens. Those applications require softeners or filtration systems that meet specific food-safe and taste-quality standards. This softener is designed for warewashing equipment only.
- This softener is best matched to small undercounter dishwashers or single-tank glasswashers typically found in lower-volume operations. For larger pass-through or rack conveyor machines, or sites running extended service periods, the softening capacity of this unit may be insufficient and a higher-capacity model would be more appropriate.
